2009 Alabama Kidney Foundation Walk-A-Thon Bake Sale

The Alabama Kidney Foundation annual Walk-A-Thon is a fun event that increases community awareness of kidney disease, while raising funds to support the foundation’s assistance programs for kidney patients. Donations enable the foundation to provide the help needed by kidney disease patients in Alabama when they have nowhere else to turn.

On Saturday, April 26, 2008, despite the weather forecast of 70% rain, Team UAB gathered at Homewood High School’s Waldrop Stadium to participate in the Alabama Kidney Foundation’s 2008 Make a Difference Walk-A-Thon.

For the 5th year in a row, Team UAB won the Team Challenge Trophy for the highest fund raising collections by a team, in addition to surpassing its goal to raise $14,000. This year, TEAM UAB raised $29,915. Team Captain Norma Stewart, along with co-captains across campus, raised funds through sponsorships from UAB employees, family friends, corporate sponsors – ACIPCO and University Hospital and by holding two bake sales.

Each year the Alabama Kidney Foundation raises money to fund research, provide preventive health-education programs, organ donor awareness, camps for patients, and financial ssistance to kidney patients.

Team UAB extends sincere thanks to the sponsors and all volunteers who made the event a great success.
